Picture of the Week

She's really becoming a little beauty.
What a blessing to have both a boy and a girl on our hands.

Consistency Confessional

Consistency. It's really critical to success in any endeavor isn't it?

To be a loving wife I need to be consistently available (in more ways than one), encouraging and open to adventure.

Consistently speaking kindly, listening fully, correcting gently, serving humbly - these habits create a gracious mother.

And my body would look far more bikini ready if only I were consistent in eating well, exercising regularly and rising early.

Consistency is SO HARD though.

It's easy to occasionally write a sweet note to a friend, very difficult to regularly encourage in word and prayer. It's easy to be kind to your kids when they are cute and in a "good phase." Hard to be kind when they have just peed on the floor and broken down with wails of, "I waaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnt it." Easy to sit in a row on Sunday morning, hard to live The Word consistently during the week.

This week I have struggled with my eating habits and being kind to my children (among many many other things as well.) What do you consistently struggle for consistency in?

Easy Casserole for Easter

This was an e-mealz recipe from last week but it uses ingredients that are generally on sale everywhere right now and would be a great Easter breakfast/brunch dish or a really easy way to use Easter dinner leftovers the next day.

Warning: this was NOT B Daddy's favorite recipe (too many eggs) but I loved it!

Ham & Asparagus Casserole
1/2 lb ham, chopped
1/4 c chopped onions
1/2 lb asparagus, chopped
4 eggs
1 c milk
1/2 c flour
3/4 t salt
1/2 t pepper
1 1/4 c mozzarella cheese

1. Combine ham, onion and asparagus in the bottom of an 8x8 baking dish.
2. Beat together egg, milk, flour, S&P and 1/4 cup mozzarella cheese until smooth.
3. Slowly pour over ham mixture.
4. Bake 20 minutes at 425. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and let melt. YUM!

Hump Day Randomness

How is it Wednesday already?

We had a busy family weekend and while it was good and fun it was oh so exhausting. B Daddy and I both looked at each other Sunday night with a, "how is it over already?" expression as we climbed into bed. Somehow that sentiment and rushed feeling has carried over into our week.

In other news - this blogger is over Lent. Did you know Lent is really 46 days? NOT 40. You probably did. I however did not. Hence the reason I jumped back on facebook with a Dove dark chocolate Promise in my hands last Friday night. I was DONE. Even Jesus was only tempted in the wilderness for 40 days - I did my best folks.

What other randomness can I regale you with while I drain the last drips of coffee from my mug and hope my children sleep another five minutes?

Oh! I painted the living room as a surprise for B Daddy two weeks ago! I would show you a picture but I didn't take any and it's grey, so not the most thrilling transition. But it does look nice. Our living room and dining room are one and the dining room got the grey makeover about 2 months ago, so it had looked awkward for quite a while. I'm not the world's best painter (as a matter of fact I was kicked off the painting crew during a high school mission trip. We were painting a back stairwell. In other words, it's not that the standards were so very high, rather that my skill level was just really really low.) so I was a bit nervous about tackling the project on my own, but I think B Daddy was so relieved that he did not have to participate and/or pay for the work to be done that all my drips and oopsies! have been entirely overlooked.

And the picture at the top of this post? The only one taken in the recent past that I am in. I love my little helper and please please note the lack of a diaper butt. What a big boy.

Old Frame into Bow Holder

This was actually a spur of the moment rainy day project, inspired by my sweet niece's request (her mama's request rather) for some 1st birthday hair bows. (I warned y'all last week that I was feeling crafty!)

My sister has two little girls and I figure their bathroom will soon be overrun by hair paraphernalia, so pulled this together as a simple way to present the gift and corral the bows at the same time. (Two birds, one stone. Love it.)

It was easy and FREE! since I had an old frame, leftover fabric, paint and twine laying around.

Step 1: Remove the glass and backing and paint frame any color you like

Sorry for the awful and off-centered pic. Not in an editing state of mind today.

Step 2: Rough up the paint haphazardly with a scrap of sandpaper

Step 3: Cut fabric to the size of your frame backing and glue down

Step 4: Wrap twine around the frame and glue down from the back.
(Don't wrap it super tight...leave room so you can actually clip the bows on)

Step 5: Pop the backing into your frame and ta da! Admire.

I liked it enough to make myself one that will serve as a memo board until #2 has enough hair for bows.

And that's the story of my week so far. But lordy I do love this little man.

T-shirt Dresses!

One of my favorite new daily reads is MADE. She has a ton of fun sewing ideas, mainly for little ones. And since one of my 30 Before 30 must dos is learning how to sew, I've been stalking her site for doable projects.

I finally found one that I had to try and I LOVE how it turned out. I turned a well-loved but too tiny Beatles tee (turns out bare midriffs are not fashionable for 28 yr olds who have recently given birth) into this precious dress for #2.

Check out Dana's site for this tutorial and more creative ideas if you're the sewing type. And if you're not, just send your cool-but-no-longer-worn tees my way. Thanks!

Hanging in There (Just Barely)

Oh the sleepless nights. Last night we hit the three week mark since #2 has had a good night's sleep. From 2:30am to 4:00am B Daddy and I endured relentless screaming after multiple failed attempts to soothe this bambino back to sleep. Teething? Ear infection? Growth spurt? Whatever the cause, I finally fed her into oblivion.

And after a perfect day yesterday - as in the same pair of Cars undies ALL DAY LONG - the Squirt has had multiple accidents today. (Most of the blame here probably lands squarely on my overly confident shoulders.) This parenting gig is tough. It's like the Squirt and #2 have minds of their own or something.

Nap time has been good to me however - I've had the creative bug and been working on some projects. Maybe I'll get around to posting pics this week!

Monday Came Too Quickly

We are on Day 2 of the Three Day Potty Training method with the Squirt. #2 is waking up several times a night suddenly (as in 12am, 3:30am, 5:30am) and will not go back down without nursing.

All that to say - I'm thankful we have coffee in the house. I'm also incredibly grateful for the non-judgmental neighbors who offered us a beer (!) and encouraging words as we walked around the block after putting the kids in bed last night.

Here's to another day of big boy undies and accidents. Wish us luck! Better yet - send up a prayer. : )
