TV options: What Do You Do??

Yesterday evening I had a chance to hang out with some of my oldest and most favorite girlfriends and in the course of conversation discovered that B Daddy and I are the only ones in the bunch who subscribe to full-blown Bravo and HGTV-filled cable.

I was stunned. I kind of thought everyone had cable. I mean, except for my Amish friends who don't have a TV at all.

I brought the subject up because B Daddy and I are debating cutting the cord in December when our current specially priced package expires. So I'm curious...is my group of girlfriends an anomaly or are we? Do you have full-blown cable? Do you Hulu/Netflix/Roku it? Or do you have no TV at all?

Do tell.

  1. We are full blown cable. I know we probably pay too much, but if I can hold on to a little sanity by indulging in some "Say Yes to the Dress" I figure it is worth it to my husband. Plus if I were to cut Johnny's football, I think he would freak...P.S. GO BLUE! ;)

  2. We went from cable to Direct TV to Satellite. We don't have the extra movie channels. Helena likes the Nick channels. Direct TV had FIT TV, but, new one doesn't. Todd watches the sports channels. We stream Netflix movies through the Playstation 3 and computer. I did ban the TV from the bedroom though ;)

  4. We have full blown cable...no way we'll be getting rid of the English soccer channel or whatever channel plays the Cubs games - Todd wouldn't know what to do with himself :)

  5. We have Roku/Netflix and then HDMI port to stream ESPN3 sports - love it, and it's free! We get over 20 channels, including 2 PBS channels that constantly have great kids cartoons. Netflix even has all of the Veggie Tales which my kids love and many of the Disney Princess movies - and then if you want to flashback - you can taken in old episodes of Friends or go way back with the ATeam, etc. We are just finishing up watching the entire 24 series - highly recommend if you have not watched those. We only have streaming Netflix - $7.99/month - and an antenna is in our attic with a booster attached so we can hook all tvs in the house through the cable and view the channels....never going back to a high cable/satellite bill!!

  6. We have every movie channel available, but Zach does work for AT&T and gets a very nice discount on our service. We love movies too much. It saves us from going to the movie theatre and paying way too much to see a movie that may not be that great to begin with. We are bad people to ask about cutting out tv. If it was a choice between our heat and our cable, well, I can't promise we would make the right choice. :)

  7. Cut the cord!! We haven't had cable or network TV for 11 years now! We originally went without to save money, and loved it so much we never went back. We spend more time together as a family, and my kids aren't exposed to all the garbage that is on TV. We do own a television and watch movies on DVD, and my kids love their Disney/Pixar DVDs. I occasionally watch something on Hulu...like the Sing-Off. That's it!

  8. We've had cable on and off. We didn't have it for the last few months (we have Netflix), but with it being football season my husband was about to go crazy without it. So we have a lower level cable package just for football season then it's no cable again for us and we'll survive on Netflix :)

  9. It is amazing how much you can watch on Netflix/Hulu. Our 3 kids aren't allowed to watch a lot of TV but when they do get "screen time", there is MORE than enough to keep them entertained on Netflix. Plus now there's Red Box so we can easily rent something for cheap if it isn't online already. We save a ton of money and also less temptation to sit in front of the TV screen all the time. AND I love being able to have my iPod/Pad portable so I can take my show with me as I move through the house doing chores; I can actually be productive while I get a little screen time of my own. :)
